Education and Expertise: Melissa’s passion for making a difference in people’s lives is underpinned by her solid educational foundation. Armed with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Social Work, she has honed her skills and understanding of the complexities faced by communities in need. Her expertise spans a broad spectrum, including capacity building for small and emerging communities, governance and policy development, leadership skills development, women and youth mentoring, and decision-making skills.

A Force for Good: Throughout her illustrious career, Melissa has actively advocated for and developed services to aid vulnerable and at-risk communities. She believes in the power of collaborative, community-based approaches to address pressing issues such as family violence. With both professional and voluntary experience, Melissa’s contribution to society has been far-reaching, earning her accolades and recognition from various quarters.

She was honored with the prestigious Pro Bono Australia IMPACT25 award and the Collaborator Award for her exceptional contributions to the sector. Her commitment to community welfare was further acknowledged through the NSW Fire Services Award in 2009 and the University of Western Sydney Community Award in 2013. Her impact resonates with everyone she touches, making her an essential pillar of support for countless individuals and communities.

A Multifaceted Leader: In addition to her role at the Community Migrant Resource Centre, Melissa holds several influential positions within notable organizations. Currently serving as the Chair of the Settlement Council of Australia (SCOA), Board Member of Western Sydney LHD, Board Director on Anti-Discrimination NSW, and a member of PMAC Police Multicultural Advisory Council, she strives to be a voice for marginalized communities and champion their interests at every level.

The Girl from Mumbai: A Migrant Story: Beyond her exceptional leadership and advocacy efforts, Melissa has also left her mark as a published author. Her book, “The Girl from Mumbai: A Migrant Story,” is a moving account that sheds light on the challenges faced by migrants and refugees, showcasing the resilience and strength that can be found amidst adversity.
